The Most Beautiful Bookshops in Prague

Are you a book-lover looking for the best bookshops in Prague? Then look no further, as this blog post will go through precisely that!

One of the best things to do in Prague is to explore the city’s unique bookshops. If you have been a fan of old, beautiful, antique bookshops, or you have been a fan of previous UK bookshops I have mentioned, then you will be sure to love these bookshops in Prague too! They are pure cozy vibes with a dark academia aesthetic and shop owners who care about their books and customers. The shop owners will happily help you find a book suited just for you and may even give you extra recommendations. I ended up taking home two books by Czech authors I had never heard of before!

Whether you like non-fiction, biographies, classics, romance novels, or just the smell of old bookshops, I can promise you, you will fall in love with all of these mentioned below!

Some of the bookshops you can expect to find on this list are the largest English bookstore in Prague, antique bookshops, independent bookshops, and Prague’s largest literature bookshop, a café!

1. Shakespeare and Sons

Shakespeare and Sons is an English bookstore in Prague specializing in English and other foreign language books. It holds over 20,000 new and used books. Whatever you are looking for, you will likely find it here! Fear not if you are looking for something unique that they may have yet to stock! Shakespeare and Sons take special orders through their website or over the phone. They regularly import books from both the US and the UK.

The bookshop is one of the coziest bookshops I have ever been to. The shop has multiple seats, so you can sit down and read a book chapter. Shakespeare and Sons also have a downstairs area. Here you will find more books scattered around. You will also find more chairs and even couches, where you are welcome to sit and spend a whole afternoon if you wish!

Spalena 53 is one of the bookshops in Prague that you should be careful entering… because you will have trouble finding your way back out again! It has terrific deals for books that you will not find anywhere else in the city! This is one of the best secondhand bookstores in Prague. You can find boxes with books for under 10 CZK, approximately 30p in pounds! Besides having great deals and beautiful, antique editions of your favourite classic books, this bookshop also sells many other precious gems, including small vintage things from the 17- and 1800s, photographs, old textbooks, and more. And if you have anything you want to get rid of yourself, such as LP records, CDs, maps, magazines, books, or anything similar, they also buy books!

Amadito & Friends is one of the best international children’s bookshops in Prague. The bookshop holds a wide range of children’s books in English, German, and French, making it the perfect place to find books for children between the ages of 0 and 14. In the bookshop, you will find all the genres you can think of. Some include classics, novels, picture books, and more. 5. Prvni Podzemni Antikvariat

Prvni Podzemni Antikvariat is one of the best secondhand bookstores in Prague. This bookshop is something extra unique compared to other second-hand bookshops. The first thing that makes it unique is the fact that it is located underground. When you step down into the bookshop, you will notice the enormous stone walls and feel like you have just taken a time machine into a different era. I love the feeling of this bookshop, and you should spend hours here easily. The bookshop sells predominantly second-hand books and focuses on art and graphics. So if you are interested in arts, you will love this bookshop.

6. Antikvariat Nerudova

This is one of the most beautiful bookshops in Prague. This cute second-hand bookshop quickly became my favourite when I saw the stunning outside, as shown in the image below. Besides being incredibly beautiful from the outside, the inside is gorgeous. You will also soon realize how many treasures this bookshop holds. Including, famous books and books you have never seen or heard of before.

You can also find stunning vintage photographs of Prague, postcards, and collections of poems with some of the most gorgeous covers you have ever seen. This is one of the most beautiful secondhand bookstores in Prague, and visiting simply to see the beauty is an acceptable reason. However, if you want to get the most out of your visit, you should take the time to chat with the bookshop owner! This is the bookshop where I got two Czech books I may have never even heard of before. She will happily help you find the perfect book for you.

7. Valentinska

Valentinska is another one of the secondhand bookstores in Prague. It is one of the best bookshops in Prague if you love second-hand books. However, it is more in the touristy city center than any other bookshops on this list. This means the price for a book is a little more expensive than the average, usually around 200-300 CZK. However, they have many unique books you would not be able to find anywhere else in Prague! And since it is located in the city center, it is also one of the most beautiful bookshops you will stumble upon. The outside of the bookshop has enormous windows and huge red bookshelves.

Address: Dělnická 313/20, 170 00 Praha 7-Holešovice, Czechia

8. Rekomando

This bookshop is quite different from the rest. Rekomando is a mix between a bookshop and a record shop. It sells LP records, many highly intellectual and political books, graphic novels, and second-hand books. If you are looking for second-hand books, you must go to the back of the bookshop. This is where you will find the tiny second-hand book room. Here you will find many different second-hand editions for great deals.
