5 Hidden Nature Spots near Copenhagen

If you are looking for some lesser known nature spots near Copenhagen, you have come to the right place!

Here is 5 hidden nature gems are all located near Copenhagen. If you are planning on visiting Copenhagen your first thought might not be to go explore the nature that Denmark has to offer, but these 5 places will definitely make you reconsider that thought. I hope you visit at least one of these places, they are gorgeous and unbelievably underrated.

1. Stevns Klint

You have probably heard of Mons Klint but have you heard of Stevns Klint? Stevns Klint is one of the rare places that is not completely flat in Denmark. It is a beautifully idyllic and peaceful place that you absolutely must visit if you visit Denmark. It is so picturesque and gorgeous, you will be amazed at the sight of this place.

The walk along the coast will not only take you to the beautiful Stevns Klint, it will also take you to the Lighthouse. You will eventually end up at Kalkbrud. All these sights are worth seeing and going to, and you can definitely spend a full day in this area of Copenhagen to fully explore the beauty of the nature.

To get to Stevns Klint you can either drive or you can go by public transport. If you choose to go with public transport, I would recommend either getting the Copenhagen Card or the “Rejsekort“. One will get you 1-99 zones free, all transport plus free and discounted main activities in Copenhagen. The other is a card you top up and pay as you go. Depending on how much you will use the transport and how long you are staying in Copenhagen, one of the two will suit you better.

There are a few changes along the way, but they are super simple. From Central Station you have to get one of the red S-trains. The train you will need to catch will be the E-train to Køge. From there you have to take an L-train (Local-train), and that will take you to Haarlev. When you reach Haarlev you can take the 252 bus directly to Hojerup, which is a 5 minute walk away from Stevns Klint. It may sound a bit complicated, but I promise, it is very do-able and easy. I would however recommend staying a night in the area for the best experience.

2. Spodsbjerg Fyr

We have quite a few Lighthouses in Denmark, however, I would say, this one is one of the more beautiful ones. It is located right next to the holiday destination Gilleleje. It is an absolutely gorgeous place that you must visit, especially if you are planning on staying nearby somewhere in Gilleleje. The nature surrounded by this place is so incredible.

*
To get to Spodsbjerg Fyr from Central station, you will need to take the S-train to Hillerod and thereafter take the 920E L-train to Hundested. It will take you about 10 minutes to walk from the station to the Lighthouse. It is super simple, and if you have a Copenhagen Card, you will not need to worry about getting tickets as it is within the 99 zones that the Card offers.

3. Amager Faelled/Kalvebod Faelled

This one has been on one of my previous lists and for good reason. It is a huge Nature Reserve in Copenhagen, and it is again one of the most idyllic places in Copenhagen. At the moment I do not have a lot of photos from this place, however, it is absolutely incredible. Trust me. It is stretches incredibly far and will look best in the morning fog. If you are a nature lover, you will adore this place.

*
To get to Amager Faelled from Norreport Station you will need to take the M1 Metro, get off at Bella Station and walk/bike. It is super easy to reach, however, it is a big area and if you want to reach “Kalvebod” you have to be prepared for a long walk. I would recommend taking your bike.

4. Utterslev Mose

This place surprised me. I was not expecting much of this place, since it is pretty much right in the city. I was wrong. Utterslev Mose is gorgeous. It is huge as well, and will get you on a good, long walk through nature. You will not feel as though you are in Copenhagen, I will tell you that. If you do go on this walk, you should consider stopping by “Grundtvig Church” while you are at it. This place is incredible, inside and out. It can also be seen from afar on the photo above.

*
To get to Utterslev Mose from Central station you will need to take a bus. You will need to take the 5C to Veksovej (Frederikssundvej) and walk about 10 minutes.

5. Karlstrup Kalkgrav

This is a Limestone Quarry so idyllic and so hidden you feel special when being in this place. You may or may not have heard of the Limestone Quarry in Faxe, but you have probably not heard of this one. This Limestone Quarry is a little smaller however also way less crowded and just as beautiful as the one in Faxe. The Limestone makes the water appear blue like a tropical beach. It is so pretty and unbelievable that the colour of the water can look like this in Denmark!

*
Getting to Karlstrup Kalkgrav is easy. This is yet another advantage of going to this little gem over the one in Faxe. You just have to get an S-train for about 30 minutes. You will need to get the A-train to Solrod Strand and walk for 20-30 mins. Then you are there. Super easy, super beautiful. Do not miss out this place.
