  1. Visit Tivoli for Halloween

Tivoli Gardens is the third oldest operating amusement park in the world. It is an absolute must visit for coming to Copenhagen especially during autumn. Out of the 10 Best Autumn Activities in Copenhagen this one has to be the best. During Halloween Tivoli is dressed up with over 10.000 real pumpkins and halloween decorations all over the amusement park. It is arguably the best time of the year to visit the park.

If you would like to be scared and impressed by decorations and special halloween events then make sure you add this one to your list for Copenhagen! It is the one thing you should do when visiting Copenhagen in autumn. The halloween set-up runs from the start of October to the start of November.

Tip: Go during the day but do not miss the night time! The halloween decorations really shines when the sun goes down. Make sure you get a stamp on your way out to be able to get back into Tivoli for night-time.

How to get there: The good news for Tivoli is, that it is extremely easy to reach if you are staying in the centre of the city. It is located right next to Copenhagen Central Station. If you are staying in Nørreport, Vesterbro, Østerbro, etc. you simply need to get the S-train to Copenhagen Central Station and it will be right in front of the station. 2. Go up North to the Deer Park

Copenhagen has a gigantic Deer Park just 15 minutes from Copenhagen Central. It is one of the most beautiful places near Copenhagen in autumn. If you are considering leaving the centre of the city for a fresh breath of air and a break from the city noise; then this is the place you should go. It has miles and miles of walking paths and stunning scenery to take in. And don’t worry about going empty handed in – there is a bunch of small coffee stalls and a café in the park so you can have a coffee, tea or a hot chocolate on the go.

Tip: Make sure you stop by the oldest amusement park in the world Bakken which is located about 200m from the main entrance on your left.

How to get there: The Deer park is located in Klampenborg which is a 15 minute train ride from the city. You can take the regional train with the end destination Helsingør and get off at Klampenborg. When getting off you are basically right next to the entrance which is to the left from when exiting the station.

3. Take in the autumn colours in Kings Gardens

One of the 10 Best Autumn Activities in Copenhagen is to take a walk through the Kings Gardens. Kings Gardens is one of the favourite tourist and local places in Copenhagen. It is extra special during autumn because of the incredible colours that appears in this park – and with Rosenborg Castle in the background you have basically got yourself a real life fairytale scene. This is another place to buy a hot drink, go for a walk and just take in the scenery.

How to get there: Getting to Kings Gardens is easy. It is located a short walk from Nørreport Station. Nørreport Station can be reached by every S-train and by the M1 and M2 metro lines.

4. Have a cozy night in Bastards Board Game Café

If you are going with a partner or a friend(s) make sure you go to this place! You will meet every single Copenhagener here on a sunday evening so make sure you book a table ahead of time if you are going in the evening time. Despite it being a super busy place, it is absolutely worth your time! If you want to have a cozy time with cheap drinks and an amazing atmosphere then add this one to your list!

Tip: Book, book, book! Book a table in good time. Especially when wanting to go in the evening time.

How to get there: Bastards Board Game Café is located on the address: Rådhusstræde 13, 1466 København
You can reach this address by getting the m3 or m4 metro line from Copenhagen Central station to Gammel Strand Station. From there you can walk from the station to the café within 10 minutes. You can also walk from Nørreport station – this will also be a 10 minute walk.

5. Take a Magical Day-Trip to Frederiksborg Castle

If you want to experience true magic then you will have to take the train up to Hillerød to visit Frederiksborg Castle during autumn. The gardens in Frederiksborg Castle is free to visit and is absolutely worth it even if you do not have the time or money to visit the actual castle. This is another place that feels like stepping right into a fairytale so make sure you add this one to your list.

Tip: Go during late autumn for the most colours and the most magical experience – the beginning of november.

How to get there: To get to Frederiksborg Castle you will need to take the A-train from Copenhagen Central Station or Nørreport Station all the way to Hillerød Station. This train ride takes about 30 minutes and it a bit of a longer journey – however it is absolutely worth it. Do not miss this one simply because of the slightly longer transport time.

6. Visit the underground museum The Cisterns

The Cisterns is buried deep beneath Søndermarken and is an underground museum where no sunlight will reach. The Cisterns is a popular experience with tourists as well as the locals of Copenhagen – and for good reason. It is a unique underground museum experience that is best experienced during autumn for a more moody experience.

Tip: Book, book, book! Again, this one is super essential to book (way) ahead of time – this one tends to be sold out a month forward. It is not only the tourists that love this one – it is the locals too! So make sure you book in good time.

How to get there: The Cisterns is located in Frederiksberg and the address is: Søndermarken, 2000 Frederiksberg
To get to Frederiksberg you will need to take the M1 or M3 metro line from Nørreport and get off at Fasanvej Station. From there you will need to walk a decent distance of 1 kilometre. It is about 15 minute walk from the station to The Cisterns.

7. Experience art and culture in the Glyptoteket

For the rainy autumn days there are a bunch of museums to visit in Copenhagen, one of them being Glyptoteket. If you want to experience culture and history, admire marble statues and mummies then you have to visit Glyptoteket. Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek is a unique experience and is perfect for those rainy days where you do not feel like exploring outside in the city!

The Natural History Museum is another place for those rainy, autumn days in Copenhagen. This one is a shorter visit and you will not need to set off more than 2 hours for this one. Despite it being a shorter visit, it is one of the best experiences in Copenhagen. If you want to meet the T. Rex and say hello to Denmark’s biggest vegetarian then you should visit the Natural History Museum of Denmark.

How to get there: The Natural History Museum is located just across the road from Nørreport Station. To get to Nørreport station you have to take any S-train or go by the M1 or M2 metro lines.

9. Take a walk around The Lakes (Søerne)

If you want to meet the locals and really see what Copenhagen is about then you have to take a walk around the famous spot Søerne (The Lakes). The Lakes are where you, as a local, will accidentally run into your middle school friend that you haven’t seen in 10 years. It is not only one of the most lively places in Copenhagen with bars and cafés scattered along the lakes, it is also stunningly beautiful on an autumn day.

Tip: Give yourself at least a good few hours for walking the whole route around the Lakes. Then give yourself a 30 minute break at one of the many cafés located by The Lakes.

10. Watch a Horror Movie in Dagmar Cinema

If you are so lucky to visit Copenhagen during Halloween then you should watch a Horror Movie in Dagmar Cinema. It is an old-school cinema and is actually one of the oldest cinemas in Copenhagen. Going to this cinema feels like taking a step back into time, and watching a horror movie in this specific cinema only adds to the effect. If you dare… you should definitely add this to your list!
